“Forgive Yourself, Baby” is an upbeat, swinging 12-bar blues about facing the one person who can sometimes be hardest to forgive — yourself. The song begins with old shame returning in the morning, but instead of surrendering to it, the narrator decides that the past doesn’t get to take over today.
At its heart is a simple message of resilience: you may have made mistakes, carried regrets and travelled some badly cracked roads, but your worst moment doesn’t have to define who you are now. The repeated chorus turns self-forgiveness into something almost celebratory, while the bridge captures that stubborn little rhythm inside that keeps saying, “Stand back up.”
Musically, it carries that message with a bouncy A-minor blues shuffle, Hammond M3 organ, walking bass, brushed drums and blues-guitar fills, wrapped in the warm, slightly ragged sound of a 1960s analog room — tape saturation, spring reverb and enough microphone bleed to make it feel like the band was simply caught playing together.
It’s blues about regret without wallowing in regret — looking in the mirror, accepting the scars, and realizing that if you’re still here, you can still move forward.

Lyrics
I hit that glass this morning
Could barely hold my face
Old shame at the door again
Tryna take my place
But I said, “Not today, buddy”
You don’t get that right
I’m still standin’ in this body
Still in this fight
I done made my share of messes
I done worn my worst days thin
But the sun came up on broken
And it let me back in
Forgive yourself, baby
(Forgive yourself)
Forgive yourself, baby
(Forgive yourself)
Look in that mirror again
You made it through the night
It could be much worse
It could be much worse tonight
I seen the cracked-up patches
On the road I chose
Seen my own two hands
Pointin’ where the hurt still grows
But even when the ground shake
Even when I bend
I’m not my worst mistake
I’m not back there again
I done made my share of messes
I done worn my worst days thin
But the sun came up on broken
And it let me back in
Forgive yourself, baby
(Forgive yourself)
Forgive yourself, baby
(Forgive yourself)
Look in that mirror again
You made it through the night
It could be much worse
It could be much worse tonight
If your heart is tired and heavy
If your head says, “Give it up”
Hear that little stubborn rhythm
Saying, “Stand back up”
One more breath, one more promise
One more look, and you’ll see
That scared little face still shining
Still belongs to me
Forgive yourself, baby
(Forgive yourself)
Forgive yourself, baby
(Forgive yourself)
Look in that mirror again
You made it through the night
It could be much worse
It could be much worse tonight
Could be worse
Could be much worse
Yeah, look again
You’re gonna be alright
